Call for Participation: Overseas Study Program: University of Glasgow in February 2015 by SGU project

This program is designed to promote research exchanges between the professors, researchers and students of the university of Glasgow and Kyoto University, will be held in Glasgow, UK. This is open to Kyoto University regular graduate students working in the field of Global Economy (Business History & Industry Policy Studies). The official language of instruction and communication is English, therefore it is assumed that all participants have the required English language skills.

Dates February 15 to February 22, 2015
Program overview This program will be conducted over four days at the University of Glasgow and the related facilities and will comprise several activities; Join existing classes for graduate students (“Global Economy” etc.), make presentation in a workshop, or conduct field research, etc.
The finalized schedule will be given in the orientation session.
Eligibility Kyoto University regular students (Graduate Students only)
Precondition for participation The participants are supposed to attend the orientation session which will be held during the second week of January, 2015 (The selected applicants will be notified of the date, time and venue of the session after the selection).
Language proficiency standard English, TOEFL iBT 68 / IELTS 5.5 or above
Number of participants 10
Necessary expenditure and subsidies The participants will be subsidized the expense of flights and accommodation by Kyoto University. Each must be responsible for expenses such as overseas travelers’ personal accident insurance, domestic/foreign transportation, meal and excess baggage charge etc.

Recommended pre-departure course None. The participants is highly encouraged to prepare and study in advance. Recommended book list will be provided in the orientation session.

Notification of selection outcomes We’ll notify the applicants of the results by 24 December via e-mail or phone.

Notes for application 

  • In principle, cancellation after submitting is prohibited. Applicants are required to bear the costs incurred due to personal reasons. All such costs should be covered by the applicants.
  • This program starts / finishes at Kansai International Airport, it is unacceptable to join/leave in the middle of the program, applicants should stay the whole way.
  • The participants will be subsidized the expense of flights and accommodation by Kyoto University. All arrangements must be made through the university, no refunds will be provided for tickets and other costs already incurred by applicants. The personal information you provide in the application may be shared with travel agent and other third parties for the purpose of making the necessary arrangements.
  • Applicants selected for the program must attend orientation session to gain information on procedures and important advice. You will be notified of the dates, times and venues of the session after you have been selected. Please be sure to attend.
  • Each participant is responsible for taking out travel insurance designated by Kyoto University at their own expense.
  • Applicants should apply for visa on their own responsibility in case of necessary.
  • The participants are required to submit the report paper after returning to Japan.

Please submit the following items (1 through 4) by E-mail.

2.A copy of score report from a language proficiency test, TOEFL or IELTS

If you are unable to provide a proficiency test score report by the application deadline, you may substitute a Certificate of Language Proficiency (Form 2) completed by a faculty member, but you will still be required to submit a copy of the score report before departure on the program.
If your score is equal to or lower than 68 on the TOEFL iBT or IELTS 5.5, you must submit a Certificate of Language Proficiency (Form 2) completed by a faculty member to establish that your proficiency level will not impede your capacity to participate in the program. If your score is equal to or lower than 41 on the TOEFL® iBT, in principle you are ineligible to apply.
