Course description

The aim of the course is to acquire some basic knowledge of international economics and use that knowledge to understand the present situation of emerging economies. We will study not only about emerging economies in general but also about specific cases of emerging economies in Europe, Latin America and Asia (like the famous BRICs). An obviously important task of the course will be to examine how emerging economies are faring under todayÕs global financial crisis. To do that, we will look at the history of some previous financial crises and compare them with the present one.

After obtaining some basic knowledge about international economics, the students will explore individual country cases or compare economic reforms in different countries in their term papers. The main findings of the term papers will be presented in class at the end of the semester.
