In 2014, the Graduate School of Economics established Joint Research Projects with the aims of generating innovative ideas in collaboration with private enterprise and making broader contributions to industry and society.


Renewable Energy Economics Program

Outline and Aims

In this Joint Research Project we seek to extend and enhance the use of renewable energy through the development of a platform for research directed not only to overcoming technological hurdles, but also to designing social and economic systems that will promote renewable energy use. We will actively produce and disseminate proposals to inform policy development.

Building a Natural Capital Economy

Outline and Aims

The aim of this Joint Research Project is firstly to collect and develop a database of successful cases regarding natural capital economy in Japan and around the world. We analyze the cases to identify the factors contributing to their success, link this analysis with theoretical research, and develop new quantitative indicators in order to measure the natural capital economy. This research provides the basis for the formulation of policy proposals and dissemination of findings that contribute to wider society.

Energy Policy

Outline and Aims

This Joint Research Project involves investigation of trends in energy policy and energy markets with a view to identifying new paradigms and challenges in the development of the energy industry. Through collection and investigation of analyses of source-specific power generation costs, we study the costs of generating electricity from different sources in Japan and build a platform for the sharing of information in this field.
