タイトル: ”Nonparametric Identification and Estimation of Production Functions Invariant to Productivity Dynamics”
Abstract: ”Firms’ input choices depend on productivity, which researchers do not observe. I propose a method to identify and estimate production functions nonparametrically without specifying productivity dynamics. The method uses the different information about productivity in firms’ static choices of labor, materials, and electricity. Under conditional independence and normalization conditions, these choices identify the distribution of productivity conditional on observed inputs and state variables. I combine this distribution with output data to recover production functions under additional conditions. Applications include measuring output elasticities and markups and using estimated productivity as an outcome in studies of policy interventions and firm behavior.”
